It’s that time of year again. Yes the time when I realize that once again I will be spending Valentine’s Day watching couples on youtube and contemplating my dark fate to be forever alone. Sounds pretty depressing to you? Well think again! This year I looked back on my Valentine’s Day history and remembered the terrifying anxiety of not getting any paper heart or candy in the 4th grade when all the others girls got one. That day when I went home from school I found that my Mom had gotten me a teddy bear in celebration of the holiday. Thinking about that little teddy bear from long ago made me realize that this day isn’t just for lovers but that its a holiday about love itself. It’s about ALL kinds of love, friendship love, love between siblings, coworkers and even the love of parents for their children.
What’s love got to do with it is the question and the answer is EVERYTHING. Love is something we all want, we either have it or we’re chasing it. Sometimes love catches us and other times we get lucky and we realize that love is within us all along. This Valentine’s Day I’ve decided to reach out this guy and ask him to be my Valentine. It’s something I have never done before. But 2020 just feels like the kind of year to do what you haven’t done and be a little bit braver, to take some more risks. What would you like to do this year that you’ve never done before? Something monumental like going back to school or talking to that person you’ve been crushing on. What is something you will do to mark this year as a special one?
What if I say do it, do it for love not because it’s Valentine’s Day but because this unexpected gift is one only you can give yourself. What’s love got to do with it, indeed.
